The Forbidden City is famous for its imperial palace during the Ming and Qing Dynasties. Spanning 74 hectares, it is considered to be the world’s largest palace complex, with its 9,999 rooms and 6-meter deep moats. A favorite tourist destination, the Forbidden City offers its visitors spectacular views of the Chinese royal architecture, along with different unique structures that can be found all over the complex.
Another one of China’s magnificent structures, there is no doubt as to why Great Wall of China is included in the list of the world’s greatest wonders. Built as a defensive fortification some 2,000 years ago, this 8,851 kilometer wall spans the entire of China, from East to West.
The Ming Tombs site serves as a mausoleum for 13 emperors of the Ming Dynasty. The mausoleum has been preserved through the years, which immediately gives its visitors a nostalgic look into China’s past though the royal artifacts and jewels on display, as well as the majestic columns and architecture that is present everywhere.
If you watched last year’s Beijing Olympics, it wouldn’t come as a surprise to you that the Beijing Olympic Site has become something of a tourist spot, even after the sports events. The Bird’s Nest Stadium (also known as National Stadium) wowed viewers with its unusual architecture. The Water Cube, where Michael Phelps made a world record in swimming, is praised for being green—for making use of solar power and other sustainable services.
