Travel Information
Cebu is a long stretch of island in the Philippines’ Visayas region. It is considered to be one of the most progressive provinces in the country. Cebu City is one of the oldest cities in the country. With an international airport nested within the city, it has become the center for commerce, trade, technology and education in the Southern Philippines. Its neighboring islands are popular tourism destinations because of their pristine white sand beaches and quality accommodations.
What to try
Take a historical and cultural tour around the province and visit Fort San Pedro (built by the Spaniards as a lookout for pirates), Magellan’s Cross (erected by Portuguese explorer Ferdinand Magellan, who was defeated in battle with Lapu-Lapu) and the huge Taoist Temple in the suburb of Beverly Hills, where you can take in a marvelous view of Bohol and Mactan, as well as the sunset.
This island province along with its smaller, neighboring islands also makes Cebu a popular spot for scuba diving and snorkeling because of its diverse marine life and corals. Beautiful diving spots can be found in Moalboal, Sumilon Island, Cabilao and Malapascua Island.
Attractions
Cebu’s white sand island beaches are a common attraction among those who visit the province. From backpacking accommodations to luxury resorts, you can choose from a wide range of places to relax by the ocean. Some of these include Sumilon, Malapascua, Bantayan, Camotes and Olango Islands.
Visit the Jumalon Museum Butterfly Sanctuary and Art Gallery and take an enchanting walk in the garden where you will find over a hundred butterfly species fluttering around. A museum can also be found within the grounds, where the late Dr. Jumalon’s mosaics and art work are exhibited.
Mactan Island Aquarium showcases different aquatic species including deadly octopus, seahorses, starfish and different kinds of fish, through the assistance of Marine Biologists who also work there. Aquarium tour guides also educate visitors on the importance of preserving underwater ecosystems.

Sinulog
3rd Sunday of January
As one of the most popular and well-attended festivals in the country, Cebu’s Sinulog Visitors and residents alike are wowed by the Sinulog’s spectacular costume parades that is full of energy and color. Various events are lined up just for this festival, as well as trade bazaars, pageants, contests and exhibits.
